Kenwood KA-8100

About 2 weeks ago, I got this Kenwood integrated amplifier from an old radio store, the owner had passed away last year, and now the house is for sale, the widow want to sell out, so she can move out, I gave 250 Dkk, around 30 Gbp.
It is in okay condition, a little rusty on the right side of the cover, but not much, yesterday i connected it to the vario and slowly turn up the power, it works fine, no blown fuses and no smoke.
it have some problems with potentiometers and switches, it need to be cleaned, on the top of the toneboard there is a lot of bad red Elna electrolytic capacitors, there often lack fluid, so i ordred some new god ones, on the power amp board there also was some electrolytic capacitors, i have some new ones in stock, i check the old, and actually they was all okay.
The amplifier is near the top of the range in kenwood program in the late 70ies, this one got 2 power supplies and a lot of features, and DC coupled output stage.

That's a nice-looking piece of kit, Alex; it's interesting to see how things have changed with amplifier design where this amplifier has a goodly number of tone correction and filtering facilities - yet many high-end amplifiers now just have a volume control, not even a balance control (my Musical Fidelity amplifier being a case in point).

indeed it is :-), and yes later models from 1980ies and later was boring, only few was interesting, the really pain in the.... was the plastic, not cool at all. :-(.
I like the design on your M6si, i presume the fron is made in aluminium, it seems to be very pro and expensive 🙂

Hi Alex, they're beautifully made: they've just been taken over by ProJect though.
New, that amplifier is GBP2,800 - it's 220W per channel which I need to drive particularly insensitive loudspeakers; they're B&W Matrix 802 series 2.

2800 Gbp woow, it´s pretty much, also the power out, do you really need so much ? how much is the damping factor on that beast

The damping factor is 180.
The loudspeakers are pretty insensitive, with a minimum 50W input (maximum is 600W): I tried them bi-amped with 65W LF and 45W MF/HF and it became obvious that it wasn't enough - plus I was due an upgrade anyway 🙂
