After a long break from from working on this set I'm now fit enough to continue with the completion of the restoration of the Baird T5. Apart from my wellbeing the availability of certain key parts was holding up work. One item was the correct fabric for the loudspeaker baffle board. Thanks to a local friend who donated a piece of cloth which will be an excellent match for the original material. Work is going on apace to have the set ready by the late summer.
.The cabinet is now in the dark walnut finish. Three wood bars must be made to fit over the loudspeaker baffle, the originals were destroyed by woodworm.
All the electronic units will need retesting before final reassembly begins.

@till Nice work, David!
It was fascinating visiting your workshop a few weeks ago, a proper Aladin's Cave of, well everything!
Hi Wayne, glad you enjoyed your visit to the workshop.
Picture of the power units installed on the base of the cabinet. The sheer weight of these assemblies will ensure this tall cabinet will never fall over.

@till That choice of speaker fabric is a superb match to the original. This set is going to be absolutely wonderful!

Using an office stapler the new fabric has been stretched tightly on to the baffle board.

Hi David,
What was your source for the material you used in the back panel?
Peter
Hi Peter,
the material was bought from a shop in Hexham in Northumberland sometime in the late nineties. Was bought to replace the tatty material on the backs of my EMI TV receivers. Such material must still be available.

The position of the chassis attachment holes on the newly made shelf must be determined. That done however, to find the exact positions of the holes it still might still be a better idea to remove the shelf from the T23.
Goes to show even way back in 1935 ease of of servicing of these early Baird TV receivers was given consideration by the designers.
