Anyway you are getting there, congratulations. Don't feel bad about not spotting it, most of us have been there and done that. Bonus you can now use the scope.
Frank
Agreed.
Pleased that you found the culprit in the end.
Mind you, looking at the amount of rust and corrosion in some of the pictures, I'm not surprised the more fragile items have suffered.
well done find it, been through my suitable stock and I'm out, sorry.
With that 100k pot and two extra resistors, one each end, to make it to 220k would be OK, need to adjust the value of the two resistors to put the pot in the middle. Reduce its range but should work.

I knew right from the outset that this set could be the 'problem child' of telly's and boy was I right ! It was originally purchased as a breaker and came out of a nice damp barn in North Yorkshire where it had spent many years in storage but once I started looking a bit closer at it I just couldn't bring myself to break it especially with the CRT being so good
Just for now I'm going to box up this beasty and pop it to one side until a suitable 220K pot turns up for it, there's no rush to complete the job just for the sake of it. At least it made me try the scope out
The story will continue........
Marc.
Ah, I guess a duff pot could screw things up a wee bit! I had that happen to my Murphy V180C, just about all the pots along the front had lost their wipers, or were about to as they had corroded through. They were Welwyn wire-wound pots, and the wipers were just pushed onto the shafts like spire clips.
I have a selection of wire-wound and carbon pots somewhere... I'll have a dig in the few boxes that have made it to the workshop tomorrow, and see if: A) I can find them! and B) I have one of the right value, if I find one, it's yours!
I really need to have another look at my TMB272, although the picture is excellent, I now have little or no sound!
Regards,
Lloyd.

Cheers Lloyd, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Has the line hold pot suffered the same fate?

Hi Frank,
No, it's just the R88 (470K) on the line hold pot that had gone high 770K.
Next I was going to go and sort out the focus but the picture has now disappeared and R60 (100Ω) has started smoking...oh joy of joy's !
Marc.
C71, or less likely C73,41 unless their feed resistors and overheating.

C68/71 doesn't look the healthiest of specimens, it's leaking gunge and starting to bulge now.
Marc.
Unless there is a S/C in the wiring that does look favourite, is it getting warm? Careful is doesn't blow open in your face.

Hi Frank,
It was C68/71, I've replaced it with a pair of 22uf 400v caps which seems to have improved matters some what.
Next things to look at are focus and very twitchy height and frame linearity pots.
Marc.
Careful with the mag focus unit, if it's been damp the assy could be corroded, don't want the CRT damaged.
Impressed with progress so far .

What's a few tea-times among friends lol
Just to re-cap (no pun intended ! too late anyway) still need to replace 220K pot, free off focus lever, clean height and linearity pots then it's time to find lots of various screws and washers to replace all the rusted and stripped ones to put all the covers back on the set and then give it all a good clean.
Fingers crossed I should be able to find enough bench time to finish it off (except the pot) by the weekend.
Marc.
