Looks super; with the silly prices that the originals now fetch, if this is within your capabilities, they why not?

It's an object lesson for veneerers, banders and inlayers. A riot of contrasting grain and colour. Too much for me by far but it sure proves whoever did it is capable of accurate work.

Whilst not denigrating the workmanship there, I'm with you - it's far too "busy". Less really is more sometimes.

Does anyone remember the mirror-lid Ultra set made around 1986 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the regular television service? Used a 14" Thorn portable chassis.

Is it possible to post a picture of that set? It's unknown to me.
Thanks!

It may take some finding Jac, but I'll see what I can do for you. I know what magazine it's in, and even the box file. It's just a question of "is it here, or is it in storage?" !!

I don'r recall an Ultra but there was a Ferguson Mirror lid manufactured in 86 to mark the occasion. Didn't Mr Boynes have one of these back then? It was called the Reflections

It was indeed a Ferguson, but it was loosely based on an Ultra set appearance-wise. I didn't know it had a name: it was a prize given away by the Radio Times, and that's where I have the picture.

It might have been inspired by a Ferguson TC918 or TC1218. No idea how these sets look though.

Quite a bit off topic, but these replicas would be very rare indeed.
I only have a Philips scale model, which is c. 12 cm high (1/8th scale. Nice for most of us with our limited storage/display space (which certainly applies to myself).
Being a Philips fan, I would gladly make room for an original, but I'd always find the space for any pre-war set :qq1

@ Peter: A nicely built cabinet. Indeed a bit over the top contrast-wise for me as well.
At least he chose one of the most beautiful pre-war sets as inspirement.

Hello Jac,

There is more than one "continental" EMI television.

This one is in period though!

Thanks Peter.

This one is more inspired by HMV than Marconi.

Maybe a sort of half and half?
Semi-smiling.
