Ferguson 'Courier' Model 3643
Ah yes, I've had this one too. Replacing R98 in the circuit finally cured the problem.

Caught some of the Morecambe and Wise film, "The Magnificent Two" the other night which featured the back and tuner layout of an obvious 960 set.
By the silver and black colour it could have been an Ultra or HMV. Model.
Any chance of an update Jon?
Hi Brian,
Nothing new to report I'm afraid!
What with a new baby, work and my dad in hospital, I have not had a chance to get to the workshop or look in here very much.
I think I have tested and changed everything (where required) in the frame stage.
I cant even remember what state it was in when I last switched it on.

Hi Jon,
I perfectly understand, same here but it's work in my case. Hope your dad is ok.
I've learned another 960 has turned up, HMV 2638 which is the same version as yours.
Brian
Hi Brian,
Work is still crazy here too. I can report that after 7 weeks and 1 day dad was released from hospital and is making slow, but steady progress at home.
I have been given a pass for Tuesday night so I might get to have another look at the Ferguson and try and remember where I got to with it.
I did see an HMV set on eBay a while ago that looked like it might be the same set, is that the one you are talking about?

Hi Jon,
That's good news about your dad.
The 2638 is grey in colour with a plain coloured CRT surround. I've asked the owner for his permission for me to upload pictures of it here.
There was an Ultra version on eBay awhile ago, same black and silver as the HMV 2633 I have but with Ultra branding. Same later version again.
Looking forward to hearing more about your Ferguson
Cheers,
Brian
Here's a sneak preview of the HMV2638, courtesy of Colourstar and uploaded with his kind permission.
Looking forward to a thread on it.
Brian
Hi Brian,
Looks to be in nice original condition. Will need a few knobs by the look of it. I did break one of mine getting it off.

I forgot who had this set from me ? . and I've not messed about with it at all so no need to worry... and it was on ebay a while back and I had to drive down to camber sands to collect it and a 1400 portable too which is now with another forum member.
Cheers
Neil.
So things did not quite go to plan tonight! A new trampoline arrived today for the children and it needed putting together in a hurry ready for tomorrow. As a reward I been granted 2 consecutive nights in the workshop ?

Hi Jon,
Did you have a chance to get back to the set at all?
As you'll have seen I now have the HMV 2638. Your component location diagrams will be most helpful when I get to work on the frame stage.
Hopefully your Ferguson will have the CRT wthin the Feinbridge guard and not the crude arrangement of the earlier 2633.
Cheers
Brian
Hi Brian,
In a word no!
Work and family stuff got really busy so I was unable to get to the workshop. Then when it started to ease off I got a bit distracted by the Dynatron TV23A that I recently purchased. So I must get back to it soon and find out where I got to. Good to see you got yours finished and now have another set like mine. ?

Hi Jon,
No problem. Haven't had a chance to get back to the 2638 through work, but hope to on Monday. The 2633 still suffers from the intermittent ragged verticals problem of course.
The good thing about having two similar models is the ability to test the chassis in the other set to rule out the CRT which I'll try another time. It's past its best anyway, things were never the same following the disastrous dropper capacitor failure. Perhaps one day a replacement tube will turn up.
Cheers
Brian
