Pete and I are planning to boil up a batch of them in the slow cooker when he and his daughter visit Sydney on the weekend after next.

You need a long extension lead and do it outdoors!

I've done one transformer so far, in a container on the BBQ side burner, and had to deploy the fire extinguisher! I will NOT try THAT again!

But it turned out well. A surprising amount of white foam in the form of tiny bubbles was expelled from the transformer.

I'm hoping that a long boil and a long poly soak might be able to save the two transformers I have that run for about 10 minutes and start shutting down. I have a third one that can manage about an hour before the EHT starts dropping. The theory is I might be able to get the polyester to soak into the spaces vacated by the wax.

You would think that the windings would fall apart. They don't seem to do this, though.
