I'd popped out yesterday lunchtime, to get a sandwich and drop off some post for the office people...
Walked past a junque shop, and this stared back at me longingly...
I walked on by .... it got me on the way back, and ,after a brief chat with the owner, the princely sum of £10 changed hands.
So, things are a bit quiet here on a Friday, so I decided to put the set on the bench....
Nice and filthy, just how I like 'em. I threw caution to the wind, connected it to the mains, and left it simmering away at 50V from the variac for a bit....
When the AC got to about 180V, line whistle started, there's some hum from the speaker. I powered it off to check the mains electrolytic isn't warm... it's not, so I give it the beans.
The tube's extremely bright and sharp, but this is the best I can get from the aurora on Ch.1. Sound is there very weakly.
Any idea on the chassis type, so I can find some data, and a date for the set?
Cheers for now,
Doz.
Its the VC11 chassis and I have the data, will scan and upload shortly. Date is roughly 1965

Thanks Chris....
Crikey, they certainly squeezed that chassis together !
Well done for saving it. ?
To understand the black art of electronics is to understand witchcraft. Andrew.
Service data for the ITT-KB KV003-VC11 chassis, is now in the library. Two sets of data, Trader and LLJ.

It certainly is compact.

Sort of looks like a bit of instability....maybe a decoupler in the IF's somewhere. Should be a good-un when you fettle it.
I'm tired, it's late, but... where's the UHF tuning control?

Looks to be on the right hand side, can just make out the shaft of it in one of the chassis photos 🙂
looks a nice little set, and quite cheap too!

Lloyd
A small transistor UHF tuner, the service sheet notes the only repair to undertake with the tuner is to replace a circlip on the tuning gears, it states it can fall off.
Frank
Lloyd's correct, it's on the right hand side. Think Sony 9-90..
Ah, the KB Featherlight - although 'light' it isn't! In the TV adverts of the time, a young girl is asked to "Bring the Featherlight!" - I'm sure they must have removed most of the guts, the effortless way she carried it!
As far as I can see from the pictures, it seems to be missing its handle. I was carrying a brand new one when the handle snapped! Fortunately, I was able to get my foot under the end that was now drooping down and lower it to the floor without causing any damage.
We ordered a new handle and, when it arrived, found that there was no a metal rod under the handle, secured at both ends with a plastic nut the same colour as the handle, so KB obviously discovered the problem early on.
A pity they didn't retrofit the sets they had in stock before delivery to the dealers, though ...
If your problem is instabilty, you'll find one of these very useful.

Handle's present and correct. It made it all the way back from the junque shop, so it passes muster for now ...
Angle of the camera obscured it in the previous photo...
Good, but from the picture, I can't make out any projections from the end brackets which would be the fixings for the reinforcing rod although, admittedly they aren't very big. Does it have one or was there a later reinforced handle that didn't need these fixings?
Otherwise, if it is the original unreinforced handle I'd be very careful with it!

I had one of these sets passed onto me in 1983.
My heart sank when I noticed the CRT, an unprotected type, had chunks out of the glass.
"I dropped it down a flight of stairs, but it still worked when I tested it".
The front safety glass had been destroyed in the fall....
Needless to say I was too frightened to proceed any further with the set. I think the CRT is an American thick-necked type.
Later versions had implosion protected CRTs which could be fitted to earlier versions as replacements but not vice versa of course.
Nice to see one of these sets again. Looking forward to hearing how you get on with it.
Cheers
Brian
