and as has been metioned befor the if transformers are suspect not just the coils but dry joints, if you dont have a signal geny mybe you could knock up an injector and work back from the final if

Hi Rob. the tuner i took from the set has been damp at some point and has some green slime in it. and i assumed the other tuner was working but it may well not be. and ive checked the coils for continuity and redone the soldering but its still not co-operating with me so im at a loss as to the problem. and as you and steve have said without a signal generator its a bit difficult to say where the fault is. cheers neil.

Hi Neil,

If your tuner has (potentially) conductive crud in inaccessible places then put it in the dishwasher.

Good job too! I wouldn't try putting a whole TV tuner in a dishwasher. The water might not be pure enough for the electronics. I would try cleaning it by hand.

By the way, one of the tips I have is to check the transistors in the UHF tuner. They do cause problems! Easy enough to change.

Cheers,

Steve P.
