This has been languishing on the rountuit pile too long.

It's been a bit 'got at' some time in the distant past. There's a light switch connected across two pins on the dropper for a start ... never a good sign. Was this flicked to give it a boost one wonders?

Initial checks with the Leader show the tube to be as flat as a pancake, left the heaters on for 30 minutes, and tested again... 85%, slowly rising from it's long slumber! That's encouraging, although oft misleading!

Currently passing a bit of DC through the LOPT overwind to get it warm. 50V is dissipating about 5W, so I'll leave it there for a week...

Very dead. I'll let it soak in white spirit for a while, clean it up and see if it's possible to attempt a re-wind.

Pete and I have had several cases where LOPTxs have come back from the dead after a long simmer in turps.

Certainly worth checking.

@irob2345 I'll certainly give it a go. Off to Wickes in a minute to get some white spirit

Do it outdoors, and don't use a gas ring!

If it tests OK afterwards, you'll need some polyester lacquer to soak it in.

We've never tried it without this step. We believe the poly gets into the damaged area of the winding, replacing the white spirit, and insulates it.
