Some of the 1939 models seemed ahead of their time, with streamlined-looking direct view cabinets and relatively large screens. Television sales had been increasing during 1938 and it began to look like things could be taking off. I wonder if this trend continued into 1939 or the realisation that war was imminent took its toll?

Interesting to see the 1939 version of the EF50. All-glass, as described, and no mention of that familiar red can ...!

Was it ever produced/used in this naked state, I wonder, as the picture clearly shows the unprotected glass stem protruding through the valve pins ...

Looks very risky to me!
