It is my camera.....or my ignorance. It is hard enough to avoid the black band. I usually have to take loads of pic's before fortune of timing avoids it. I know very little about photography I must admit, and really have no idea how to take good screen shots.

You will certainly get black banding if your shutter speed is too high and potentially you can capture just a half frame. You need to select a shutter speed of perhaps 1/20th of a second or longer. If you can't operate in shutter priority mode then you may be able to force your camera to use a longer exposure by decreasing the sensitivity. Select 50 ASA or whatever the lowest is on offer rather than the higher numbers.

It will also help if you turn down the brightness on the 9-90.

Of course the downside of the longer exposure is that probably will need to use a tripod or sit the camera on something so as to avoid camera shake.

Cheers Peter, yes the minimum ASA on mine is 80 and it certainly reduces the band. Reduced brightness on the set is better too. The camera is a fairly old Cannon IXUS 75, if 11 years can be considered old lol.

I have re-fitted the tinted screen and the set is now ready for another 48 years of use....

There is no doubt that the tinted screen helps daylight viewing.
