Hi Brian, nice to hear you have got a reasonable picture out of your tube, I will dig out the Baird and see how well it fairs with the heater boosted, but I fear the worst with my CRM92
I mounted the 15" bomb back into the cabinet today. I must say, it makes a very hansom tele. The spring counterbalancing mechanism works very well and was easy to install (once I got the right installation method -READ THE MANUAL). Next comes the installation of the chassis for both the radio and the TV. As an aside, when doing the last minute checks, I noticed that the dial lights (change with radio preselection) didn't work and I had just fitted new lamps of the right specs. This was traced down to bad holders - where they had been swaged during manufacture, corrosion had got between the surfaces and broken the electrical circuit. The only way I could fix them was to file the corrosion away at a couple of places on each joint and bridge the gap with solder. This is OK as there is no stress between the two bits that are joined. I mention it just in case anyone meets this problem.
_Very_ nice jon all round. I would say I'm envious, except there is no way on this earth I'd want to go anywhere near that CRT. Ever!
TTFN,
Jon
I know what you mean, Jon. I was very careful and wore a bulletproof vest (or I would have done had I had one!).
Here's a picture of the beasty:
Hi Brian,
I'll have to take some brave pills before attempting a start on the TSC1113 that's in my possession.
For starters two 0.1 mfd 10KV EHT capacitors will have be found. This set employs a voltage doubler in the EHT supply, that's scary enough. 10KV mains derived EHT! My set has the Ekco 12 channel conversion, it's all properly done so it stays in the set.
That 15" CRT is big for sure, however, in the States DuMont made a 20" all glass round CRT.

Hi Till.
I restuffed the two Visconal caps using the ASC caps from Allied Components. They're not too expensive but the carriage and duty really clobbers the costs so that they work out to be very costly! However, in the long run, it's worth it to have a very reliable EHT PSU but, as you say, 10kV brute force is something to show great respect for .
The Cossor 15" CRTs look much safer, perhaps due to the implosion "sack" around them.
Hi Brian, I've found an Ebay seller in China who is offering 0.1mfd 10KV capacitors for £11 ($17). Free postage.

Was halten Sie davon?
Till Eulenspiegel.
Zehr Gut, Till. Auch mit kostenlose Post!
I have bought these caps before and they are very good and not too large. Because of the handling charges that the Royal Mail add, It's always best to buy as many as one can afford - they do quite a good range of values!
I buy quite most of my capacitors from china and so long as i dont need them in a hurry they come surface mail and to date have never had any customs charges. Air mail is another ballgame, everything gets slapped a nice post office fee plus the customs charge.
I'm about to order two 0.1 microfarad 10KV capacitors from an Ebay seller in China. As I'm in no hurry surface mail will be OK by me.
Till Eulenspiegel.
Same seller, same capacitors but a "Buy it Now" price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10kV-0-1uF-Hi ... 809wt_1030

or get Qty 50 for £19.39 ?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/50pcs-10KV-10 ... 256307ca7a
enough for everyone for a few years
All 50 in parallel would be 5000pf. The ones we want are 1,000,000pf! I think Till's work out a bit cheaper (and a good deal smaller) than yours, Freya
Brian the decimal point has slipped one place to the left.
That would be 1uf.
Doh, thats what happens when i type posts after a rigorous day with the children i was looking at nF on the conversion chart
You might have to leave the radio chassis out in order to get a 1uf 10KV capacitor in the cabinet
I've ordered a 0.1mfd 10KV EHT capacitors from Ebay seller high-voltage-hv Based in China this concern has a 100% rating. Free postage to the UK.

Yes, Till. I've bought from this outfit before. Pretty good on fast delivery - but it's always the UK postal service that is the problem, both for time and cost!
