[Closed] Kent - South Wales (or somewhere a bit nearer than Kent) ? 26" Hybrid CTV

Given the eye watering prices hybrid colour TV's have been fetching recently, I'm pleased if rather surprised to be winning one at present at quite a low price. I did bid in haste (and indeed beer) although I saw it was Kent I assumed it was a 22" but it was a 26", if I do end up winning can anyone help with this ? I realize this is a difficult time for this sort of thing and I fear it may be a two man lift, maybe this is why no-one else is bidding on it ! Auction not ending until Friday and given the size and distance I won't be increasing my bid, so may come to nothing or might be of interest to someone a bit nearer.

Just for clarity, Its a Rediffusion MKI and these are not in the same bracket as the "eye watering" ones like the Thorn 2000, Baird 700 series, Philips G6, DECCA CTV25  etc. That's why its cheap, you're pretty much already bidding near to its max value. Well max to those in the know and who collect early colour. I sold 2 back in Jan for a total of £150 to a forum member so £75 a pop.

If you cannot arrange a forum courier to transport, then you're looking at an additional £60-£80 on top, via shiply or anyvan, though it may be more due to covid. These two couriers specialise in shifting these sort of things, I and others have used them a few times. If you're forced down that route, it  makes the TV an overly expensive purchase. Other couriers will not touch TV's due to risk of damage.

Hope you're successful both in price and getting it shifted, but clearly a case of worth checking with folk before bidding and especially when you've had a few bevvies. If you do get it, the service data is in the library and you have access?

p.s.
I note it has the Malvern sticker, I wonder if the vendor purchased from the same source from a couple of years ago. A glut of Rediffusion MKI's appeared on e-bay back then, they had been kept in the basement of a pub which flooded. A number of Vratters bought a few, some were good some not so good.

If it's north Kent I may be able to get it some distance west of there but I am really not sure how I would handle a 26". It would be difficult if I couldn't transport it in one move, as it were, and I wouldn't want to leave it in my car round here. I am unlikely to be able to move it myself, and would need the set on some kind of elevated surface even to consider being part of a 2-man lift.

Hi, Thanks for the reply, I don't really know Kent, but the seller is in Swanley. I think the size of this TV may be the issue, I could easily lift solid state 26" sets (long arms) but I used to have a 26" ITT CVC7 which was certainly a two man lift.

Question removed (see below)

Well, Swanley is reachable but the weight of the set is, as you know, likely to be a problem.

Are you sure it's a 26"? I'd say it was a 22". The figures '22' seem to form part of the model number visible on a sticker on the back. Also the chassis seems to fill the cabinet - therefore if this was a 26" version it would follow that the chassis would be too large for the case of a 22" model!

Elementary my dear Watson.

It's probably still blimmin' heavy though, so the 2-man lift may well still hold true.

I think you're likely on to something there Steve.

Checking my own sources, The Rediffusion Brochure, its shows the CU2611. It looks identical to the one Mark is bidding on, same user controls, tuner and cabinet style except for one difference. The 26" in the brochure appears to have a black/dark brown cloth covering, whereas the e-bay one has a wooden slatted speaker grill.

Certainly seems like 22", as you say the sticker suggests CU22WD, though the last two digits are blurred.

And yes the two 22" Redifussion MKI's I had were very heavy compared to other 22" sets in my collection. I was always shocked by that, but then again the chassis is quite substantial compared to a 3000 for example.

Yes this has to be a 22" as the chassis is a snug fit in the cabinet just like the two 22" MK1s I bought from Chris earlier this year.

The internal shot looks identical to mine.

Outbid !

Phew ! Well sort of, I'd have really liked the TV, but I think the logistics of this, especially at this time would have been too difficult (the 5 mile travel rule is still in place in Wales).

I'm still on the lookout for a MK1 and MK3 aerial or cable sets, but perhaps a bit nearer or when lockdown ends.

In the meantime the transport request is withdrawn.

Thanks for the comments everyone.
