CTV 1981 20" Mitsubishi CT-2017BMs
This caught my eye, and as luck would have it, located in the hometown of one of our members. There was just something about it calling to me, I also thought it would keep my 1976 20" Sharp C-2051H - Linytron company.
In another Mitsubishi thread back in 2016, covering the CT2005BS variant, Andy @doz stated the following:-
Posted by: @dozThere was a 20" early "black diamond" set which used a similar chassis. The tubes were always superb on these, and as the remote was usually missing when I bought them ex-rental from campion wholesale, I got them for £15
That'll be this set then, so it looks like I'm lucky to have the remote, and if I'm really lucky the tube might be good. Fingers crossed again!
Special thanks must go to @slidertogrid for kindly picking this up and holding it for me, whilst I arranged the collection, cheers Rich, very much appreciated and for wrapping it in bubble-wrap. Today really has been a busy day with regard to new arrivals, in fact this past week, what with the BBC Micro, the BBC Teletext Adapter, the PYE portable teletext, this Mitsubishi and of course the Philips K35 at the weekend. My head is on a swivel, not knowing which way to turn, or what to give priority. I think I'm well and truly sorted for winter projects now.
Some photos tho whet your appetite, internals to follow, but I need a cuppa first.
p.s.
I'm not sure certain, but I think this is the same model of set that was in an infamous tabloid article about 10-years ago. This is where a poor old fella was plastered across multiple rags, all stating he had the oldest working colour CRT TV in the country, apparently he told them he bought it back in 1968 🤣
p.p.s.
Err no, it's not teletext, I know.... what was I thinking. 😉

Pleased to hear it has arrived in good condition Chris. I had a fair few of the 22" version of this set bought ex-rental, they went on for many years without a single repair, The only fault I can remember was dry joints on the line oscillator transformer when the sets were old. The biggest problem with the 22" was it's size, they were a bulky massive heavy old thing with a deep cabinet which made them look older than they were, so second hand ones hung around a while. No matter how good you told potential buyers they were!
I can't remember seeing any 20" versions I will be interested to see how similar the chassis are. ISTR the 22" was one horizontal panel in a plastic frame. The 20" set you have is a lot smaller and much less 'clunky' than the 22"!
My Grandad used to have a similar model with teletext, which my Uncle managed to buy ex-rental in the late 1980s.
I see 2 x BNCs and a DIN connector - AV In with loop-thru?
Unusual on a "non-professional" model TV. Might be a conversion?
Correct, I thought it strange to find those, it looks too good to be an amateur conversion, unless there were kits availble.
I think I also need to revise my date guesstimate, the remote reveals this to be 1982. Thankfully, the batter had not caused any damage.

Never came across any of these , nice looking set though
I look forward to seeing it working

Some more shots, a couple of flaps I missed, and the internals. All that dust has protected the PCB, underneath looks good.
It may be a while before I get around to any of the recent TVs as I'm consumed with sorting out the BBC Micro and it's Teletext adapter.

My Grandad's set had the same connections, so I presume they were a factory fit, maybe it would allow an output to a VCR without a tuner.
That is a Mitsubishi Q chassis. AWA (Oz) used to assemble them at Rydalmere after the ill-fated Thorn 4K adventure.
Very, very reliable chassis. I don't think I ever had to fix one.
Most of the sets we saw were 63cm. They used a CRT with blue tinted glass to correct for the off-red phosphor - you know, same as RCA used, it was orange, not red! AWA - Thorn made a sales feature of it!
For once, an uneventful and I guess boring update on this CT-2017BMS. Nothing to do with me, everything to do with Japanese reliability. With no SMPS supply to deal with, just a transformer and STR371 regulator IC, it was introduced to the mains via a Variac. Started at 50V monitoring the HT rails, no dramatics, with sound in the speaker. After 5 mins I went to 100V, sound louder and a reduced width raster. Full power after 10 mins, then tuner in.
It works, the end.

Nice job of cleaning the PCB though Chris. It looks brand new! I'm not surprised that it worked. The only fault I can remember was dry joints on the line driver Transformer and that was uncommon. I had loads of the 22" ones out on rental they all just went on forever!
Doesn't surprise me either! Even the AWA Rydalmere built ones (larger screen sizes) would just run forever.
Boringly reliable!
You did a great job of cleaning it up.
Weren't these called blue diamond due to the blue tint on the CRT?
Correct.
