26" Decca Colour 100 Chassis
Hi All.
Finally got round to having a look at this one. I picked it up from Mikey66 last week.
It looks to be a reasonably upmarket version of the 100 chassis. Possibly modified with DIN video inputs? a Texas instruments Teletext board (Disconnected for some reason?) and a nice little nixie channel display. There also seems to be a board missing out of the bottom of the set. possibly to do with the text board. All the main boards appear to be present.
Initial checks revealed a few sick looking electrolytics on the PSU panel. These have been changed. I unhooked the tripler then cautiously applied mains. The set appears to try and start up. pops from the speaker and after a second shuts down. If the i unhook one of the plugs on the LOPT panel the set appears to start up. Nixie illuminates, some form of line whistle can be heard then after a few seconds a fusible resistor on the convergence panel springs open.
This leads me to think the line output transistor (bu208) may be faulty? Ive got a few on the way tomorrow. Ive got a service manual now (Thanks Chris )
Any pointers would be appreciated
Jan
Hi Jan. Send jooles405 over on paul stennings forum a PM as the set was his before it became mine and he can hopefully fill you in with some history about it.
Cheers
Neil.
Hi Neil. Many thanks!
I shall give him a message.
Jan
Hi all.
Some slight progress with this set. I replaced the BU208. Power applied and i was rewarded with sound and line whistle. Power off and hooked up the tripler. Gave it mains again and the set fired up. Literally... The LOPT Caught fire
All voltages around the LOP area seemed to be reasonably close to what they should have been.
I don't suppose anyone has a spare Decca 100 line OP panel and a tripler languishing in a dusty box somewhere?? All costs met of course. Here's Hoping
Jan
Hi Jan. The fact that the lopt caught fire has surprised me as I had the set going more than once and never had a problem with it. I do have some spares for these chassis so if I can access them I can send you what you need.
Cheers
Neil.
Hi Neil.
Many thanks for the offer of spares
The Lopt looked in excellent condition so i was surprised myself. Would it be possible that a bad tripler could damage the transformer?
Jan
