Has it really been 7 months since I used the set?  Well it just so happens that the 11th October marks the set's 50th birthday, so I must have a little party for it !   ?

Mod Note:

This post and the following, have been split off from the main M708 thread. This is so not to dilute or digress, the superb body of work contained within the original M708 restoration thread.  ?

She awakens after a 7 month sleep.....all is quite well, no adjustments or fiddling required I'm pleased to say. No unexpected tales to tell here.   ?

Thanks John and Marc, yet I still can't believe it is 50 years old. The consolation is that it will celebrate 50 years before I do.....by 4 months ! ?

I really must make the effort not to leave it 7 months until the next time I use the set. But time flies as they say.

No prizes for guessing who these are....

I recognise Hendrix but the other lot evade me...probably a boy band that I wouldn't have been interested in.

The Rolling....something or other. I must confess to not especially liking them or Hendrix, but that's just personal taste. It was better just to display the images with the sound turned down. Sorry to any 'Stones or Hendrix fans  ?

Recognised Hendrix but would never have thought they were the Stones, the guitar player on the right I seem to recognise but not from the Stones, oh well more memories lost or remembered incorrectly.

I have to admit to be rather lacking in colour material from 1968 to play on the set. The above pictures were from top of the pops 1969 and the Isle Of Wight festival 1970.

I feel guilty for not getting the set a birthday card or present....but that could be going a little too far me thinks.  ?

Why not? Sometime in the late 1980s the studio engineers in TC1 bought it a 21st birthday card!

Let's continue the party.....

Then go up the junction and view some shot's of London that are probably unrecognisable now....

Battersea power station is of course a recognisable landmark, but what is/was the large factory with the four chimneys in a row?  (Third and fourth picture.)

I've got that DVD as well. It could have been Fulham power station now long gone. I only have vague memories of it and not sure if it had four chimneys.

Mick Taylor, replaced Brian Jones in 1969. I don't remember him either.

The fourth photo even as the old band 1 and 3 aerials, if it is in London that would be channels 1&9.

Litlle bit of history in that photo that links into the forum.

A bit more trivia....the four chimneys in a row are indeed Fulham power station. Below is a link to a 1969 photo, with that and a view of some more VHF aerials. I noticed that the last X antenna on the right of the group is still there to this day. See Google Maps, Querrin Street, London.
