Hello

The only BRC3000 sets I have seen with two line output transistors have been 25" versions dated 69/70. I only have a few 3000 sets but have met lots over the last 25 years. I have now got my parents first colour set an HMV 2714, sadly my parents one was model 2704 but they share the same cabinet, so it will have to do.

most likely and fairly obviously is the simple fact that the panels esp the top two get swapped out for a quick repair. I have several 3k sets that appear to have original chroma, ftb and IF panels but very unlikely to have original PSU and LTB. Chris believes my 3703 should have a twin transistor LTB however I have never actually seen one. I have only got back into the "scene" recently and not had the back of a 3k for nearly 30 years ! With a bit of TLC these 2 should come up well.

All of the Ferguson 3703 sets i saw when new never had the early dual LTB panel fitted. The only ones i can remember them fitted to were very early 25 inch sets, Malc.

I agree Pastyboy in the 70's large amounts of sets possibly never got their original PSU or LTB boards fitted and working ones to hand would have been fitted instead. My experience in collecting sets since 1989 is you would always get ruff sets on their 4th tube with crispy burnt boards to boot for very little money.

Fast forward to around 2000/2001 sets would turn up looking like new, with very few repairs and original tube still fitted. I think these sets saw very little use and with the high cost of buying a colour tv in the 60's/70's people who owned their original set now around 6 or 7 years old didn't want to just throw it away, so put them in spare rooms, garages etc.

Then sadly 40 or less years later the original owners died leaving behind quite good condition sets that would end up at dump it sites, auctions, Gumtree and E-bay. I used to own over 150 sets in 2002 but gave away most of them. I had them stored all over in friends sheds, garages and it got too much. My partner then said "you can't save them all"

I think that sets, that still turn up now are the ones saved by the original owners and very little clapped out still in use in the 1990's with over 100 repairs sets turn up. You might get the odd one with the description " Pye 691 chassis tv found in local vicarage, only used to watch songs of praise on Sundays" Then find it full of bad repairs, all valves missing and zero emission reguned tube dated 1994.

Marcus.
