Hi,
I'm Denis and I write from Trieste.
I found this Iskra panorama in Slovenia which should be a Thorn Chassis 9000. This TV is quite rare in my part of the world and I have not found any documentation.
Unfortunately when I opened it, i saw that the T701 transformer is missing.
Would it be possible to find one?
Thanks, Denis
I don’t have one but is that the Syclops transformer?
Frank
Hello Denis, it comes as a big surprise to me to see a 9000 chassis turn up with an Iskra badge. I’m sorry I can’t help with a replacement transformer either, if the original was in fact faulty then it would have been a quite rare occurrence as I’ve only known a couple of failures.
I can only suggest you check eBay.co.uk regularly as boards have turned up before.
Best of luck with it.
John.
I didn't know Thorn sets were exported were exported with different names.
Any idea if it's just a rebadge, or was it licence build by Iskra?
Of course badge engineering in this country is well known, Thorn sets have been rebadged as Alba, Philco and of course Logik for Dixons/Curry’s. I’ve not seen one but believe some 850s were produced for Decca, Iskra was a surprise. Thorn also had rental outlets in Scandinavia using Skala as a brand name.
As to whether Iskra were licensed to manufacture them I wouldn’t know, a picture of the rear cover may help. If there is a small sticker with something like E or G7/43 would denote UK production, E for Enfield, G for Gosport. From what I can see from the stickers on the PCBs and chassis it looks UK produced but may have been sent out it kit form and assembled abroad.
John.
@jayceebee Thanks for filling me in.
When did Thorn stop making Philco branded devices? I know they were numbered 1xxx in the BRC sequence.
I know a lot of 1970s Albas were sourced from various other manufacturers without much to disguise their origins.
I didn't know Decca had rebadged some 850s.
Some early Thorn colour sets were Granada branded.

and Baird, and D|E|R, and MultiBroadcast, and Rediffusion to name but a few.

I’m not absolutely certain of this having never seen one, it’s just heresay and there was a Decca chassis that did have a passing resemblance to an 850. A trawl through the red RTVS books may confirm an 850 based Decca model.

I knew about the first three as they were connected with Thorn, oddly Rediffusion later on made sets for Granada.
I’ve got one of those little black and white sets! I find the plastic is brittle on mine, I picked it up by the handle and it cracked! It still has an inspection tag from the factory hanging inside it.
