I picked up an unusual JVC portable today, 7170GB 14". Of course, being Japanese after a preliminary dirt removal it worked first time, although there does not seem to be any control of brightness or contrast. It is an unusual design, a large mains transformer, what seems to be a smallish potted LOPT with a large separate overwind / HV unit ? I haven't been able to find any service data for this set yet, it reminds me of a 20" remote control JVC set which were circulating locally in the early nineties, these had a power transformer, linear power regulator which would fail and need a replacement from a JVC dealer and a troublesome X-ray protector circuit which would cause intermittent shutdown.

Has anyone seen this type of JVC sets before or have any service data ?

The set dates from 1977 and yes I have the service data, I'll get it scanned for you.

Just found the Trader data as well, so I'll scan that as well.

I have an example of the identical set in a cupboard, where it has sat since I moved into this house in 1983! Bought new in 1977, it was our main TV. Was working perfectly when put into 'storage'.........If anyone else wants one to play with, no reasonable offer refused.... 😉
