Mr Rusty
Hello
In late 2008 I started to fix an old rusty HMV 3500 I got there in the end, and it worked quite well. Fast forward to 2015... I no longer live in South Yorkshire after moving to the East Yorkshire coast in 2013. Well all my sets are at my mum and dads house in South Yorkshire. Yesterday I decided I would bring into my old bedroom, at my mums the HMV set to watch some vintage tv (the Sweeney).
Sadly after switching on a loud bang with a blue smoke that smelt like burning plastic... Oh dear the moral here is try to use your vintage sets more often.
When I can get round to it I will have a look see what went pop, the workshop at the moment is real full with no work bench space.
I'm now currently watching "The Sweeney" on an old trusty 1500 set, the white plastic Ultra from 1971.
Marcus.
Now that looks an interesting workshop, plenty to do in the pile
That set looks much better for having a coat of oil, they do come up nice.
The HMV does look posh now
Hi Marcus
Mr Dusty more like! There was also a b&w HMV (1500 chassis) with a very similarly styled cabinet. We had one for a while as our family set. It was a late version of the chassis with a varicap tuner and similar sloping buttons to the ones on your colour set, but arranged in a 2 x 3 square like the Philips G8.
Steve
PS- How about a pic of the white Ultra?
Hello
Thanks guys for the kind reply's.
Sadly Steve my dads old xp computer will not recognize my phone, so I can't upload a picture of the Ultra. I found an old picture of it when it lived in the attic, will that be ok for now?
I own a 20" version of the HMV you mention here is a picture of it, plus in the picture is the Ekco I picked up from you in 2006
Marcus.
Hi Marcus, yes that's the one! Very nice indeed.
Are you still going to have a go at getting the Ekco colour set running?
Steve
Hi Steve, Yes I will be putting the Ekco back into working service sometime this year. I know I picked the set up from you over 9 years ago now! I've just not had the time or workshop space to fix old sets sadly. All my workbench is full up with 25" monster sets BRC2000 etc. The floor space is full up with vintage 70's speakers Leak, Celestion, KEF, Technics and Richard Allan.
I will get there, I just need to sell the speakers on e-Bay and I should gain the room I need...
Marcus.
