New CTV haul: The magnificent 7
Today crusty TV services collected a haul of seven interesting sets. Mostly filling the Thorn gaps in my collection but also couple of interesting sets to dabble with.
What's in there?
A Ferguson 3852 Thorn 1600 series chassis. Well its a 1615B, I was surprised by it so had to get it. We were only just discussing this series chassis in the Thorn thread as yesterday, I think it was fate!
A 22" Ferguson 3749 9800 Yay!
A 22" Ferguson 37100 Thorn TX9 chassis (proper metal chassis not the plastic one so I'm chuffed)
A 26" Ferguson 3788 Thorn TX10 chassis
A Grundig series 8 S20
A Teleton CPL 142 mid 70's colour portabl
A Beovision 3300 to compliment my recently acquired 3200.
I'll add detailed photos and info in my blog collection pages.
For now something for you to peak at. Oh and yes I do have a space problem but I'll manage.

Hopefully the hallway is temporary. They look nice clean sets you have acquired.

Yes it was just for a quickie photo, I'd just brought them in from the car. They're now going into the TV display room, I'll then start documenting them later and do set reviews.

Where on earth do they all come from Chris? ?

A fine haul Chris, that lot should keep you busy through the winter months.
I particularly like the B&O and the Grundig
Best regards
Mike
Wow! Nice telly pile! Reminds me of when I’d just passed my driving test, I used to go to the tip on a Friday afternoon, and end up with a car full like that! I mostly grabbed portable sets, but got a few 20” ones too. Still got most of them.
I bet the Tx 9 and 10 will work absolutely fine. Funny there used to be loads of them about, even our school had them, but then they all seemed to disappear overnight.
Regards,
Lloyd
Stan warned me the CRT on the 1615B chassis Ferguson 3852 was low. I decided to get the CRT tester out to have a look. Now on black and white tubes I always preferred to use the Leader LCT-910A but for some reason the tube adapter would not fit, I think the pins on the CRT are to long for adapter.
Therefore the B&K 467 was pressed into service, adapter 6 is needed and thankfully fitted. Immediately I could see the tube was indeed low (in the yellow) and what's more it had a grid to cathode leak/short. I used the remove shorts function and that cleared that fault. Next was a clean and balance, this again had spectacular results and now I have good emission. Very tempted to just go and plug this set in now.
By the way the tube is a Thorn 24" TMT61-101.

The plug on the set states it was last tested 22nd Nov 2000 and was due for another test in 2001.
I plugged it in, tuned to the workshop test signal, adjusted brightness and contrast. Pretty good!

The CRT number is not one I have seen, does it have a country of manufacture on it? It’s working well, hope it stays ok.
Now are the other 6 going to be as easy to get working?
Frank
The Beovision 3300 has shrek-itis

The Teleton portable is OK, has a touchy brightness pot but a few rapid turns back and forth seems to have it stablised, for now.

I agree that this will probably be the case but there are two components in any Siemens TDA4600 based PSU as used in the TX9 PC1044 version which I would check before applying power if it hasn't been used for some time. They are the 100uf capacitor that couples the drive to the BU508 chopper base and the 300k resistor which feeds pin 4 of the TDA4600, sorry but don't remember their circuit references. They could cause a lot of damage if either are faulty.

Edit: Oops well my roll of the dice was a bit reckless in light of the above. ?

I'll pause here as carrying these from the TV display room to the workshop is killing my back.
Still to see power from this recent haul, the Fergy 3788 - TX10, Grundig GSC100, the Fergy 3749 -9800 this latter one really does need a checks first.
From last weeks haul, the Fergy 3712 is almost ready to see power, the Bush CTV 1120 and Beo 3200 need thorough checks especially the Beo.
Next work will be getting back to the repair blog for the 8000 series 3712 and fitting the flyback cap. Then see what happens upon power application.
That's it for now folks!

Those small screen Japanese portables were install and forget, unfortunately the odd one that did have a fault was always back to basics to fault find. Very few stock faults.
Hopefully the B&O will not be the CRT and just a video or A1 fault.

I did say it would probably work and you weren't to know about the idiosyncrasies of the IC, you would have had to have been really unlucky though for it to go bang. Obviously the resistor is OK but I would definitely fit a quality capacitor. Note that the value of the resistor to pin 4 varies between different manufacturers, it's range is usually between 270k and 390k.
Looks good by the way, you have been lucky with that A51-580X.
