very simple 90 volt supply
16 4LR44 batteries £4.75 for 20 from ebay
2 AA 4x batterie holders
2 x PP3 snap connectors
1" 4mm brass tubing(to make the connectors to fit radio plug)
heat shrink to isolate brass tube

That's nice and straightforward Rob.
I did try to follow Mike's thread a bit back which I think was trying to achieve the same ends, but I'm afraid I got rather lost in the theory 
.

Nice to know I wasn't the only one, Keith! 
When my ten PP3s to expire I will try his 30 CR2032 cell idea. In the meantime I'm hoping to find some suitable plastic tubes. If I can't it'll be 1" heat-shrink.
