[Closed] A day Trip to the BVWS Event at Golborne
Hi all,
Today was our first trip to the Golborne swapmeet (in fact it's first swapmeet we've ever been to anywhere) and I have to say it was a very pleasant trip. For those who are not familiar with this meeting it's only a small event with a dozen or so tables/traders and is held in the Parkside sports and community club in Golborne. Tea coffee and snacks are available too so no tummy rumbling problems to worry about ?
There was a small display of working vintage tellys to look at including Pye LV30, Ferguson 941T, Baird T163 (I think) and a Vidor CN4216....I would have liked any of those in my own collection !
I bumped into a few fellow telly collectors and had a good natter as you do and of course a bit of shopping with an unexpected reward of a GEC BT4543 from Mike (Mikeymushradio) A very nice Bryan 1500 FM radio, and Glenys acquired a Marconi T84 Radio and bought an HMV clock radio from the BVWS stall.
A really enjoyable day, we shall be going back in November. ?

Glad you enjoyed the day, I have been in April before but I have been away from home these last couple of years in April. Hope to be there in November, as I stated in the other post it’s only about 4miles from where in live.
Frank
Well with any luck we should bump into you then Frank ?

So, Milady's bought a transistor radio 😉 and the last British radio to use an energised loudspeaker; which oddly, has Brimar valves in it!
I have the HMV version of the transistor radio.

If you look up top (very top black nav-bar) under the audio category there's a section on Bryan, scroll to the bottom to see your 1500 ?

Now all she needs is batteries for it ?

Hi Chris,
Until today I'd never even heard of 'Bryan' and you've already catered for it ! ?
One thing I can say about this Bryan radio is that it's beautifully built and like a chieftain tank too !

Not cheap in 1970

Good grief, they were expensive but it is reflected in the build quality.
A fiver well spent me thinks ?

To understand the black art of electronics is to understand witchcraft. Andrew.
Yes it was really nice Andrew especially catching up with fellow collectors and friends.

Just had a look at Google Maps for 18, Greenacres Road, Oldham.
Whatever was there is now rubble...
This page lists Bryan amplifiers from 1964 to 1974, times were difficult for sales in the middle 70’s so that may have meant their closure.

Frank
That's a very interesting list you've found there Frank, especially with the prices.....wish they were that now ! ?

In the 1968/9 Hifi yearbook, Bryan Amplifiers were at 120 Ashley Road, Hale, Altrincham, Cheshire.
To understand the black art of electronics is to understand witchcraft. Andrew.
I used to work in Hale, just off Ashley road, but that was in the 80’s and 90’s.
Frank
Just so you know this Bryan radio was an Oldham built beast. ?

...and in the 1975 Hi-Fi Year Book only an amplifier was listed, but it gave the Oldham address.

I've just uploaded the service data for the BT4543 to the data library ?

Thanks Chris, that should be handy once I get round to the telly, it is basically a worker but will need a little TLC.
