Event/Website BVWS Royal Wootton Bassett, 7/7/24
It's Wooden Bucket time again on Sunday (h/t there to a much-missed friend for that nickname for it).
I'm planning on going down as I have stuff to deliver. It is worth noting that anyone coming from this area should give the A43 a wide berth as it's the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the traffic changes are the stuff of nightmares.
It's the usual venue, doors open at 9.30am for visitors or earlier if the weather is poor. More details on the BVWS website 'Events' page.
Got back a short while ago from Wooden Bucket, having gone down yesterday to help set out the auction and avoid the madness of the A43 around Silverstone (Google Maps had other ideas though 🤬 )
Not a bad day; during the auction I counted about seventy people in the hall. I bought a few mid-1920s copies of Wireless World, a damaged Brown Bros. catalogue for 1930-31 (all for a quid each). From the auction I came away with some 1920s items, to wit a BTH 3-valve set from 1927 and a very nice GECoPhone HT/GB eliminator which unusually uses a cold cathode rectifier and a 'beehive' neon. An Osram Music Magnet 4 was added to the collection as it is more complete than the one I've had for longer than I care to remember.
Prices were all over the place: boxes of 1920s components went into three figures as I suspect a war of attrition was going on: yet an Ekco AC97 - the very "Machine Age" set - realised just £160. I paid over £400 for mine about twenty years ago! I did try and bid for some 1970s turntables but that too became a bidding war and I dropped out.
Oh, and most unusual purchase - a TV light with a fish theme!
In due course the results will be published if anyone wants to see them.
