A recent thread, this one, posed a question, "how long did it take", and then to create suspense added a lot of lines to entice the user to scroll down to reveal the answer.

All perfectly acceptable, but it made me realise the OP, must not be aware of a forum feature, and more to the point I suspect nobody else does.

So time for the feature, and here it is

Reveal what you have all missed

On the editor "toolbar" there is a button to create professional spoilers (hidden, expandable content).It will insert the short codes for you. All you need to is give the reveal a title and then make sure what you want to be revealed is contained with the two short codes. As I mentioned before, DO NOT remove the short codes, or it will fail. In this case, all you need to do is give it a reveal title.

This image will explain it far easier, left side shows the post before publish, the right side shows what is seen on the forum.

Nick could have used this feature for his thread post. Another scenario could be in a restoration thread, to hide the cause of a fault, let people speculate, then the solution can be revealed when the member clicks to reveal.
