Tech Chat Doing slideshows etc

I hope this is in the right section...
Can anyone recommend an easy to use way of doing a slideshow with some video clips included with either a narration or subtitles? I would like to be able to do something on youtube. So far I have just done some video clips which is easy enough apart from the problem of copyright if you play some music from say for instance a record.
I accept that I may have to buy a software package or something ? I know absolutely nothing about how to do it or what would be best. A friend suggested a way to do it with a free google picture slideshow which I tried, but it is very long winded and I managed to get all the subtitles either behind the image or overlapping it. Very few came out right. It took me over an hour to do a short slideshow of pictures and the result wasn't very good!
So in a nutshell I need to find something that is easy to use and doesn't presume I know what to do without clear instruction!
Any suggestions would be gratefully received...
Rich

@slidertogrid Will this do what you need, I have not used it since I have no need for slide shows but the other parts of Libre Office are good.

I've used all sorts from complicated to simple, I settled on Openshot video editor in my opinion really easy to use with plenty of features including the ones you list, and its free!

I've never really understood folk's obsession with copyright, other than they're in it for the money, which is often the case as their channels are also littered with "buy me a coffee" or Patreon links.
I've used no end of music in my YouTube videos, many, in fact most, were picked up as copyright. One of my last videos used David Bowies "This is not America" the world did not implode upon me nor did I get a strike, just a copyright note and any money the video generated went to the copyright owner. I didn't care, as I was not doing it to make money, and any *money went to the owner.
As I say this is not a problem unless you are solely on YouTube focussed on making money from your channel. You do not incur a "strike", Youtube just flag your video as using copyright music and all proceeds generated from those views are forwarded to the copyright owner, which is as it should be.
*Before you can monetise your channel you cannot earn revenue unless you have over 1000 subscribers and over 4000 hours of your content having been viewed. If all you want to do is produce something for your own pleasure and perhaps others without seeking reward, then you will not have a problem with using music.

Or worse still, in-video promotions.

Indeed, and my other pet hate is "buying me a coffee or a donation via patreon, helps me maintain this channel and bring you more content". Utter hogwash! Who do they think they're kidding!

Thanks for the suggestions. I will have a look. I may well come back for more advice.
I am not interested in generating any income from this, it is purely for entertainment. Maybe just mine!
I couldn't understand why some people could post music with no problem but when I posted a record player changing records just playing a short section of each record sometimes the video would be removed for "copyright" issues. Other videos were left but copyright mentioned and in one case the music was supplemented with what I presume were AI generated subtitles... I found that old obscure recordings were generally left but more recent 'pop' music was removed. With the exception of one compilation of 'pop' for whatever reason...

I turned off the monitorise on my channel for this same reason, I'm not doing it for the money, I'm doing it so people remember me when I'm no longer here.Posted by: @crustytvPosted by: @slidertogridCan anyone recommend an easy to use way of doing a slideshow with some video clips included with either a narration or subtitles?

@michael-dranfield good on you Michael 👍 Not only a top engineer but one with principles too, a rare combination these days.

Rich, I found the very short slide show I did for my Sharp Linytron, it shows what is easily achieved with the software I recommended above. Hope that inspires you to give it a go.

@crustytv Thanks Chris if I could achieve something as good as those I would be very happy! When I clicked on the link you sent me Norton blocked it with a notification "Threat blocked. We have blocked Wave Browser.exe because it was infected FileRepPup (Pup) so I didn't go any further. This I would imagine is a Norton glitch. I was going to ask a friend to have a look when he visits to see what he thinks...

@slidertogrid 'PUP' refers to Potentially Unwanted Program and quite a lot of AV software flags FileRepPup if you search it.

I had plans for a YT channel at one time and "monetization" (God, I hate that word!) never entered into my mind - my reasoning was the same as yours.

@cathovisor Thanks Mike so it's nothing to worry about and I should just proceed? My reasons for doing youtube is that I can upload videos of sets etc working and a slideshow is a good way of displaying a lot of pictures.
I really need to improve my computer skills!

Posted by: @slidertogridThanks Mike so it's nothing to worry about and I should just proceed?
That's not quite what I said, Rich.
The big problem with the reporting of such programs is that there's both paranoia and anti-malware companies desperate to tell you it's bad.
Some AV software has the possibility of running the program in a "sandbox", so if it does misbehave it doesn't infect the rest of your system. Certainly Norton 360 does and if that's what you're using, I'd try the sandbox option on it.
EDIT: I just downloaded the x64 version of OpenShot from the link Chris gave in his post and BitDefender (my AV software) gave it a clean bill of health.

I run Malwarebytes, and it does not flinch at their site. I've downloaded the software and used it for ages, no problems. I've just downloaded V3.3.0 and scanned it, no problems. I would never have given a link or site that was suspect. I can put the latest downloaded and scanned .exe as a zip file in the data library for you if you're still not happy to download from the source.
Failing that, try Microsoft Clip Champ, you may even find that easier to use than Openshot, which does assume a certain level of computer literacy.

@crustytv Our posts have just crossed, Chris - my AV software has also given it a clean bill of health, The fact it's open source means that anything nasty should get spotted fairly quickly, I'd have thought.

I used to run Norton but dumped it years ago (20), too expensive and way too many false positives, I spent more time training it than it doing its job automatically.
Edit
I fully appreciate Rich's predicament, if you're not computer-literate and are fearful of all the scumbag traps, you're not going to trust much and will fully rely on what your AV is telling you. Which in his situation is the exactly correct stance, trust nothing!

I dumped Norton in the days when it became an absolute resource hog. I've been quite happy with BitDefender ever since.
As I write, I have just installed OpenShot on my laptop, scanned the program directory - and it's clean.
Now I'll remove it, but first I'll do a full system scan.

@slidertogrid - as above, I installed OpenShot on my laptop and then did a full system scan. Nothing nasty reported, so I say go and download it from the link Chris provided and install it. For the record, it was version 3.3.0 for x64 systems, obtained from https://www.openshot.org/download/

Many thanks for the advice. I didn't think there was a problem with the programme as Chris says he wouldn't put a link on if the re was any problem with it. I realise Norton is a bit 'keen' as It has flagged other links and sites that I am sure were OK. I really need to get my computer skills better it is as simple as that. I have never been that patient with modern tech and to a point I shy away from it! I have a couple of mates that I have asked for advice from but they soon get grumpy with me!
