Tech Chat Possible ultrasonic TV remote, ID?!

Evening all 🙂

I’ve been buying random stuff again, someone on eBay selling off job lots of electronic bits, one little pile contained 4 items, one was a VFD oven clock module, which is what I wanted, also in the pile was this interesting thing with big silver buttons, looks telly related! It also has what looks like an ultrasonic dooberry on the end..

I’ve shoved some volts into it via the 2 stubs of wire remaining on the back of the PCB, there’s a blue tant on the PCB, marked as 3V so I went with that, pressing the buttons causes it to draw 140mA, and a faint click can be heard from the noisy bit (very technical..) and if you listen really close there’s a high pitched whine, a bit like that from a TV line output stage. It also gives a nasty nip depending on how you hold it! It got me 3 times!

So, anyone recognise it? Make? Possibly make and model of TV it controlled, if it is indeed a tv remote!

 Regards

Lloyd

Don't let Chris see that. It's a Thorn 4000 remote. Just need to find a set now 👍 👍

Cheers guys, interesting that it’s for an already quite rare set! Normally you find the TV and can never find a remote for it. Shame it doesn’t have its case, but at least it’s still got its buttons still attached. I’ll give it a clean up and keep it safe, so then if anyone finds a 4000 I’ve got a remote for it! Well, part of one..

regards,

Lloyd
