Tech Chat Shaver Adapter

I needed a shaver adapter for a little project and ordered one from fleabay. I know, my own fault.

The unit has the correct BS markings but it has a 20mm ceramic fuse in it. TBH, I thought all mains plugs and adapters had to have the old fashioned 1" fuses??

@gazpacholulu

Just checked the fuse in a very old shaver adapter, 1 amp 20mm (19mm)ceramic fuse or thereabouts, probable imperial size.

Fuse hold states 1amp BS646, body of adapter has makers name Contactum, made in England

@nuvistor that's right, BS646 fuse which I think in Imperial sizes was either O or OO. My 1980s MK light dimmers also had BS646 fuses in them, as do my 1950s MK 15A-5A adaptors.

My modern MK-made shaver adaptor also has a BS646 fuse in it.

Just looked up Contactum, still in business, made in UK, not seen any of there goods for a long time.

Good to know they have a market and in business.

I bought a shaver adapter over 10 years from a pound shop with a small 1a fuse in it, the same size as an Every Ready adaptor I have.

Contactum accessories are certainly sold via the likes of TLC Direct and (I think) Screwfix, not sure if some of the DIY sheds sell them as well.

Screwfix are 15 mins walk away from home so I will look at Contactum next time I need electrical items.

Sadly I was mistaken, Screwfix don't sell them 🙁

TLC however have a huge range:

Wilko have quite a range of electrical stuff, including shaver adapters. They have sockets, plugs, back boxes, switches, cable etc.

Learning that Contactum still make their accessories in the UK has made me think of using them more in the future: I wonder where Crabtree accessories are made?

Although Crabtree has been taken over by Siemens, the accessories are apparently still made in Blighty (the South African factory appears to be used for the local market).
