El Cheapo Refurbish: Metex M818B

One can never have enough meters, especially when you have to monitor two, three and sometimes four sample points, which it seems I have to do more and more these days.
My two main work horses are the superb Metrix MTX 3281 and Fluke 75. However I have a need for another and specifically wanted another autorange dmm. I didn't fancy spending a shed load so decided to take a punt on a non working Metex M818B. It was cheap as chips, grubby, no reading on high voltage due to the 10A bussman being blown, the 4A had the wire wrap bodge (tsk!) and the stand was missing. Plus points, ohms worked and as I say cheap, well that's something!
The meter was stripped down, cleaned and components checked. one of the film resistor sections was open, probably when the 10A blew. After a clean up fettle and new fuses, its working perfectly, I didn't have a 10A but had an 11A 1000v so that will suffice. Not bad for a tenner delivered, Oh and I made a new stand from a barbecue skewer.
Looking through an old 1989 Television Mag, I found an advert for one, retailed at £64.32

A nice lttle something to ease the brain after Laserdisc players ! ?

Yes, use it to repair a few of your stock 3000 boards to build your confidence again if you need to. ?
