Vidor Lady Margret Headphone adaptation?

Hi,
I have several valve portables and would like to know if using the Vidor with headphones is feasable?
Would it just be a case of a suitable switching arrangement after the output transformer? I am slightly concerned about putting HT accross my brain although that may improve my mental state!
Rob

You need to make sure the output transformer is loaded with a "dummy load" if speaker is disconnected.
Modern phones in parallel is 16 Ohms (32 + 32).
I'd use a series resistor for headphones and parallel resistor across both.
So say speaker was 8 Ohms
put 32 + 32 ohms in series with earphones sockets, then a mono or stereo jack can be plugged in.
That's 32 Ohms total, with 32 ohms phones.
Put then 3 x 33 Ohms in parallel (then you can use 1/4W type).
Or if speaker is 3 Ohms to 4 ohms put 4 x 8.2 ohms in parallel.
Use a separate 1 pole change over switch as the ordinary switched sockets can't switch this. Or a jack socket with a separately operated switch.

I have fond memories of listening to Radio Luxembourg and Home Service on my Parents' Lady Margaret. I fitted a mains adaptor to it when I was about 11 or 12.
Recently though I got an Invicta 29, as I liked the look of it better
It has mains built in.
I'm tempted to add a phone jack socket, likely a 1/4" "stereo" with auxiliary switch built in. But also I'm wary of drilling a hole and making modifications. I'd not have worried in 1967 though!
I'm also tempted to get a Lady Margaret too out of Nostalgia.

I had thought that I may have to add a dummy load as you say, I think adding an external switch may be best as socket contacts are never reliable.
Modifications to this set are not a problem as it is sprayed two tone pink and grey with glitter and sports glowing pink knobs (my wifes choice!)
Rob

i modified a Lady Margaret for head phone use about 20 years ago useing a 1/4 inch jack socket but the customer was never happy with the soud quality

Thanks Rob t, maybe I will stick with the Ric2 for headphones then.
