Forum Images are now automatically resized upon upload. The maximum attachment size it will process currently stands at:-

8MB

I've set the maximum file it will process to 8MB as I felt that was pretty much the max anyone would have. However, if the majority of folk have larger files that need processing, I can always up that limit, but I think 8MB should cover us.

This long requested feature of auto resize was activated today. Apparently it was released on the last version, but I failed to notice.... DOH!

What will happen now?

You can upload your image file, and it will be automatically compressed/resized to the forums standards. For example, I tested a 2MB landscape file and when uploaded/processed, it had dropped to 500KB. Another 2MB portrait file when uploaded/processed, dropped to 97KB.

No more resizing images before you upload. 😎

Well, how cool is that? I'll give that a try later on. It was very nice of the software people to include the facility just when I needed it! 😊

Cheers

Nick

Tried and tested! The photos I uploaded in the snow thread were direct from my iPhone, normally they get thrown back as too big, but now they go straight through 🙂  looking more like the workshop PC is becoming redundant!

I’ll admit, the iPhone has actually got a resizer since a recent update, which has been quite useful, but does have a habit of turning the picture the wrong way up. So far the new forum resizer hasn’t done that.

 Regards

Lloyd

Thanks for the feedback Lloyd, glad to know it's worked for you. Fingers crossed everyone else has seen this and can now dispense with pre-processing their photos for upload.

The forum software is really coming into its own now, plenty of standard features, lots of modern ones such as mentions and many new ones in the pipeline.

it works well, I was also able to upload the pictures of the snow in my street and on my car straight from my mobile phone without having to make the image smaller like I previously had to..

I'll give it a try when I get some pictures of my function generator! - It still isn't unboxed yet!
