Live chat: Pilot
as ever trying to bring a breath of fresh air and offer unique services to Radios-TV, I have today installed a new feature. If you look above under the social tab, you will find 'Radios-TV Live Chat'. This can be a bit of fun but also serve as a real-time feature that threaded discussion does not offer.
For example you may be having trouble with certain concepts of a circuit or test procedure, you can thrash ideas out live, in real-time one to one or one to many, far more quickly. Then bring the honed ideas back on to your thread. Another use could be just general chin wagging that does justify a thread cluttering up the forum.
Another easy thing to do is arrange a common time like, " anyone fancy meeting up for a live chat at 18:30" etc
Its a trial, lets see how it goes, ability to chat is only available to logged in members but contents are visible to public. I think there is a way of doing private chat-rooms for members to have on-to-ones.
If two members wish to initiate a one-to-one private chat, all one of them needs to do is the following:-
In the left-hand column click on the members id, a dialogue box will pop up stating "You're about to send private chat invitation to decoder. Are you sure?". Click "yes" to initiate or "cancel" to abort it. If you click yes a private notification will be sent to the recipient private and a chat box will pop up as can be seen from the image below.
Members have the option to change their chat display name if they wish, remember though others may not know who you are if you change it too far from you known member Id. Arrow points to where you type in your chat display name, it will check that it is not currently in use. Refresh your browser windows to see the new id.
Members may be interested to know the following, if you have the Live Chat loaded in a window, when a new message is posted you will hear a "tweeting" notification sound. Quite handy if your at the bench with your back to the computer.
The new thingy "Live workshop feed" looks to be an exciting feature too.
