The web site has recently undergone a complete style makeover, I've also designed a new website banner, all this to reflect the enhanced site content coverage, that being all vintage home entertainment equipment.

The menu system has equally undergone a refresh & reorganisation with fresh content added. I personally feel the new look is an improvement over the old.

That's it for now, more updates to follow and some news about the old Vrat forum

Freshly minted forum!

Quite tasty I reckon, but I can't find the smileys. Have we lost them? Likewise, I'm not seeing the user stats at the foot of the page, unless of course they're not there anymore? Which is a pity.

Anyway, it reminds me, my sat-nav needs updating!.... {;¬)

Of course there are always negatives to a major migration. Thankfully smilies & extended stats are very  minor in the grand scheme of things and the least of my concerns, considering what could have gone wrong and that I was facing running a uncertain future forum package.

In time smilies & stats may be addressed. For now I'm happy we have a working forum and whats more all the posts came over with their attachments intact. I remember migrating years ago and no attachments came over which was a nightmare.

Even me, a computer ignoramus at the best of times, seems to quite successfully navigate the new style.

Do still like the serene green, very easy on the mince pies  🙂

One of the saner choices of the Murphy "Coloured TV" range!

This new module also works in a far superior fashion on my phone compared to the previous version 🙂

I'm also glad the blog linking is working, all these posts in this section as configured,  are appearing as comments on the main sites associated article. In fact its better than the old forums as its creates the bi-directional links at both ends for people to click and follow, the other only did one link. Also the comment button appears in the forum section too as well as the standard forum "add reply". Comments get queued for approval but not sure about std add reply.

You'll be pleased to now see after a few days of getting my head around the new software, I have enhanced things operationally and visually. Now to the right the forum has its own specific side-bar. This currently shows the most recent forums posts and below that, the most recent topics, both showing the members avatar.

Also you will note the who's online is back but now on the side-bar. It shows the online members avatar which is also click-able to view their profile.

You will also note for those members who like to see their stats, they have now made a reappearance on the left of every post you make. They show the following :-

  • Light bulb to indicate if member is online or offline and forum name
  • Rank group
  • User group
  • Rank Badge
  • Number of posts
  • little arrow, click on this to reveal access to profile,pm, etc

You and others may be equally pleased to know all the data from the old VRAT will be migrated into this forum and assigned to the appropriate members. So expect your post count to treble.

All threads, posts and attachments will be imported hopefully late Jan early Feb. In the mean time I have my work cut out re-formatting the old VRAT to match this new forums structure so the external company can logically see where and who the posts go to.

Once the data is here, the old site will be finally deleted.

In an attempt to simplify things, I have made further changes this afternoon.

This website ( Radios-TV)  now by default, loads the forum up as the home-page.

Members now login, logout and register via the forum module not the wordpress site. The wordpress side of things you can forget, its hidden now.

Navigation

The very top menu which we shall call "Menu 1" is the website menu for service data, brochures, TV collection , trade tales etc.

Menu 2: in the blue header is the forum menu. I hope this helps to make navigation simpler to understand, any problems you're best clearing your browser cache first.

Ha-Haaa,

You got me fazed to begin with. I could I 'eck as like find where to login when I first came on line tonight - I just went round in circles at first, but it didn't take long for the penny to drop, like about 20 seconds or so!

Funnily enough, I've always landed on the forum 'front page' even though it used to mean stepping out to login, and then stepping back in -this is even better!

Just one thing, can we have the test-card in full screen, and with music next time? 😆

I think the new layout is easier, Forum and login on the home page but every other link is easily available at the top of the page.

To conclude the weeks of upheaval the forum module has been upgraded to the latest version. That's it for 2017.

Among many bug fixes there are also some new features, one of them being smileys make a return to the forum post editor. Click on the face icon on the post editor, a drop down menu will load a whole raft of the little blighters, there might be a delay as they all load in for you.

Another added feature is mentions. If you're familiar with social media platforms, you will be aware of what "mention" does. If not then in a post you can type @xxxxxx where xxxxx is the user you wish to draw attention to the post your making. When the post is saved the system sends an e-mail notification to the mentioned member, drawing their attention to your post. Your mention tag appears under your forum username.
