Trade Chat Identify a Remote
OK, all you ex trade and Sherlock types, get your Deerstalker & pipes. Any idea what TV this remote would operate? Curious button on the side, shift function?

Philips without a doubt, not an expert but probably from the 2A chassis era. Will work any modern Philips and any other set that uses RC5 codes. Side switch when held sends out Philips VCR functions instead of text functions. @Sideband will be able to throw much more light on it probably down to the exact model.
John.
It was a general replacement type....probably an earlier one since others had more functions. As John says, it will work with all RC5 Philips sets from about 2A onwards. Certainly with Teletext KT3, K30, K35, KT4 and K40. Some simple remote KT3's used RC4 so it won't work with those.
As stated, the side button was for VCR use but quite limited. I think the sales blurb at the time said something about 'saving to hunt for the VCR remote when you want the quick record function....just press and hold the button on the side and press record and your Philips VCR will go into action'...... (tough if you didn't have a Philips VCR)!
That particular remote should also operate the VR2023 Video 2000 series.
Posted by: @sidebandCertainly with Teletext KT3, K30, K35, KT4 and K40.
Excellent, this is why I bought it, I had a suspicion it might be able to operate a remote enabled K30. Now, my PYE 3400 does not have a remote board fitted, however, I do have a spare K30 chassis to keep my one running, it does have the remote option. I was sort of hoping I could fit the remote board to the 3400. Do you know if this is possible, or were all chassis' not equal?

The chassis is the same, that is the main board. Regardless of standard, remote or text but to convert your set you would need the front control panel as your set has manual push buttons. If you have the front panel complete with the chassis you could swap the whole lot over into your cabinet but it seems a shame to spoil an original set IMHO. I appreciate that back in the day in a retail environment a remote set was more desirable but as a museum display set does it make any difference?
It looks just like the remote for my Nans old Dynatron! That was a beast of a thing, in a fancy cabinet with space for the VCR behind a flip down fake drawer underneath.

Lloyd
The Philips CTX set my family had used a similar remote control without the text buttons. It broke but was replaced by a general Philips remote that was a lot more robust.
All chassis were not (quite) equal. I have no idea if a non remote could be converted to a remote but as stated you will also need the touch control parts. Knowing Philips, there may be links missing on the main PCB and other subtle differences. I think you might be digging big hole if you tried to convert but who knows?
