Trade Chat Your TV Shop
Were you in the trade? Perhaps you have some photos from the 'Good old days' how about sharing them with us.
I'll start it off with a few photos I found of Rich's shop @slidertogrid I did check with him first if it was OK to publish them here.
So here's Rich's shop from the 80/90s, I believe before and after he extended into the bakery next door. Hope this stirs some wonderful memories for you Rich.
P.s.
In the first photo the chap in the centre behind the telly, looks like a young Eamonn Holmes.

Great pictures, wish I could have worked in the telly trade! It was nearly all gone by the time I left school…
It was suggested that I go into the telly trade. For better or worse my O level results determined I ended up doing something vastly different...
I remember the shops of the guys I knew in the trade. Sadly no pictures...
Nick
Hi,
Sadly I don't have many pictures but I'll attach these two
a few weeks before the shop closed in Feb 2018.
Great photo's 'oj', now I know why the white coat on the channel. Great to see John too 👍
p.s.
What is the shop now?

He was a presenter on Central TV Andy somebody or other ISTR. Central TV were doing a promo in Peterborough because we were in the overlap area for Anglia and Central (formally Midlands). That pic was in the local paper. Those pictures are all very early on in the business as you can see from the TVs and the cars! Somewhere I have some pictures of the Nottingham shop. I'll see if I can find them. The chap second from the right is Nick Slater he found fame as a musician in 'Shades of rhythm' They started off using my workshop after hours for rehearsals as we had no neighbours to annoy! Yes, happy days!
@linescan87 Passed the shop many times whilst working in the ROI, I used to stay at the airport Premier Inn just up the road. There was one time I was over there when the calls were very quiet and the weather was terrible. I was absolutely bored stiff stuck in the hotel, wish I had stuck my head in now and said Hello.
John.

I drove the shuttle bus there for few years, covering holidays etc.
John and his late wife were amazing people, both having travelled the world. They met in Basrah in the 50's, she was touring the middle east after finishing up a stint working with Mother Teresa. Both badly missed now.
Excellent photos guys, I will post some photos of me in the 80s but I don't have them all here at the moment some are at work so I will post in a few days time but let me have a look in the loft and see what I can find tonight, If I had one regret in life its I didn't take enough pictures.
More sets for sale, some you might recognise.
Posted by: @michael-dranfieldDating from 1985 here is my first shop.
Hi Michael, wonderful photos, and a very nice looking shopfront too. 👍
As you probably know, I also collect TV shop memorabilia for my museum such as signs and advertising boards to recreate the look and feel. I absolutely love the sign on your shop right up top on the right, a TV on a stand saying "TV Repairs", very unique. Did it light up? Was it something you made from an old TV cabinet, or was it professionally commissioned? I would love to find one of those. 😎
p.s.
Like I've asked others, what is your old shop now?
p.p.s
I have a couple of Ferguson signs similar to the one you had in the left-hand window

Here is a long shot of my old shop in 1985, to the left of me was the friary chip shop and to the right of me was an antique shop.
Now a photo taken 20 miniutes ago, as you can see all the shops are now gone, they are all flats.
@crustytv Hi Chris, the sign on the bay window was something I made, the case of a GEC 2110 stripped out and with a 2 feet fluorescent tube fitted, looked very impressive lit up at night, the perspex sign was made for me by one of my customers.
I no longer have the Ferguson sign but I do have another sign I had made in the 90s when I was a sharp dealer and sold brand new sets, I will look out some more photos through the ages but I seem to have a photo album missing at the moment.
