Ferguson 3V24 De-Robed
I'd forgotten just how jam packed these things were. Like the 3V23 it should possible to strip the drum down and get to the bearing without removing the whole lower drum stator assembly from the machine. Back in the day you weren't supposed to, just fit a whole assembly if it was faulty. Just loosen the allen screw on the gold coloured magnet assembly on the underside, remove the upper drum discharge brush and you can take out the head/upper drum and shaft. If you do attempt it pay careful attention to the shims on the shaft.
Regarding the 3V25 ISTR there is a NiCad on the keyboard/display PCB which can cause serious corrosion damage when it leaks.
Â
The intermittent power, more is discovered.
That has got all the whiff of a PSU fault within the 3V24. Are there switching regulators in this? (I'm too lazy to fetch the manual)
On board 07 I can see there's a 9V regulator that feeds a lot of the machine. Would that be a good point to start looking? Or... time to break out the voltmeters?

I can certainly hear one click when the power is cycled.

It is, but not in the frame of mind I'm in today, lost the wind in my sail. I'll probably spend the afternoon reading the manual.
Posted by: @crustytvApart from this intermittent power problem, when it works, it works. Looks like I've a good set of heads, and I've not even cleaned them yet. All functions work too, surprised the belts are still OK.

Wow - Frank Cannon! Loved his Lincoln Continental...
Â
Sorry Mike, unless you're pulling my leg, that is not William Conrad of Cannon fame.
I, too, loved all those U.S. 70s TV shows, Cannon, Mc Cloud, Banacek, Mc Millan & Wife, Kojak, Starsky & Hutch, Charlies Angels, Petrocelli, Ironside jeez the list was endless back then.
The chap in the scene is from another show. In that show there is a chap called Harvey, a long-suffering & out of work , despite trying as he might to get work. The husband of Mary Beth, one half of a duo, the other being Christine.
Enough clues there to easily identify the series. 😎Â
When I bought a mint VC2000 a goo few years ago from Newton Aycliffe, the lady said I've got loads of VHS tapes if you want them, almost all of them had this series recorded.
Edit:
William Conrad
I could have sworn that was William Conrad... must be the heat.
Kind thanks to @jcdaze (Jim) who this afternoon supplied me with a copy of the JVC equivalent of the Ferguson. You can check out the HR-2200 in the JVC VCR brochure here.

@crustytv Does your manual have section 8-17/18, the Y Amp details in it? It's missing in the PDF I have. I'm trying to decide what S3 does which although is power related is shown on that board, I'm not certain whether it detects when a battery is installed or if it isolates the battery when using the external 12V cable. There was a lead that that plugged into a car cigarette lighter available as an optional extra.
I suspect we have the same JVC manual from Freeservicemanuals.info. 8.16 & 8.17 are missing from mine, but I do have 8.18 though.
Yes, I meant 8.16 & 8.17 and you're right about the manual source. Not a major problem but just something I wanted to know, I'm suspecting it is most likely part of the Tuner adapter connector.
I can't be certain, but I'm fairly sure @cathovisor has the original manual in his possession. Whether it is easily to hand or in one of his vast off-site vaults, 😉Â is another matter.
Good news, folks: I located the 3V24 manual with ease - it was sat on a shelf and yes, it does have the charts with pages 8.16 and 8.17, and they are in colour. If you're not familiar, the diagrams and PCB layouts are on a series of A2-size loose-leaf laminated sheets which are placed in pockets within the manual itself.
Luckily, I have an A3 scanner so if you'd like, I'll make a stab at scanning them this week.
Or Chris, have you got a document scanner that can cope with the full-size document?Â
This evening I set the display up in the museum for the Ferguson 3V24/25/20A, with the Ferguson 51A2 FST TX100. Looks a rather snazz set up, and very 80s.
I've spoken to catho and mentioned I managed to bag a full service manual off eBay for the VCR set up, so once that arrives, I'll have a look at the problems, I find physical data far more easier to injest than reading PDF's.
I suppose the next question is "who has a manual for the 3V25/3V28?"
Well, I have the JVC equiv in a combined PDF that covers the HR-2200E (deck), TU-22E (tuner) & AA-P22E (psu/charger)
