VCR Alignment Kit
Picked up this incomplete alignment kit yesterday, a bargain as the Tohnici torque gauges fetch a tidy sum just on their own. Also comes with the VHS tape containing video monoscope, audio linear 6kHz for 10 mins and colour bars with audio linear & FM 400Hz, 8 kHz, 15kHz.
Anyone out there seen or used such a kit? Not having seen or used one myself I imagine the Torque gauge is used to set the correct tape tension.

I had the same kit. I think your missing the back-tension thing... (tentelometer??)
Didn’t have a VHS one but had the Toshiba Betamax alignment kit.

Having worked for Sony many moons ago we were issued with a beta alignment kit. It was important to tick off the tally boxes each time you used the tape as it stretches and can cause misalignment if the tape is worn. New tapes were never an issue to get. We had a lot of SLHF950s and others from the C5 upward. I had the SLC9 good video but had linear stereo any wear on A/C head and the rather poor quality sound got grim.
Cheers,
Trevor.

Thanks to a tip off from John, (jayceebee) I've managed to obtain a complete JVC VHS VCR alignment kit. I'll use all this to populate the nice Panasonic service engineers case (above) as the JVC one just comes in a plain cardboard box.
At some point I will need to pick all the ex VCR engineers brains so as to know how to use it all.

That is basically the same kit I have, I also bought the Pros kit alignment kit at the time which had the E-clip pliers and a head removal tool amongst other items, then there was the Hitachi lubrication kit as well as a similar Konig lube kit, probably still got some bits of these somewhere ?
I have had the JVC kit since it was first available. It must have paid for it's self many times over.
Sits on the shelf most of the time now, but very useful when required.

Most of the items are straightforward to use other than the take-up reel torque gauge. You need to let it rotate on the reel table whilst placing slight pressure around the circumference of the dial for a stable reading whilst it is still rotating. Not easy to do without practice or explain.
