Further Info: A Black & White GEC portable in my collection
I have the GEC 2114 in my small Monochrome collection, details as follows.

Repair detail:
The 2114 I believe was GEC’s all transistor successor to their popular valved Crystal 13, the 2015. Its quite unusual as the ones I’ve seen elsewhere invariably have all white surrounds, whereas this one has a black fascia around the CRT.
When first powered up there was barely a raster, this turned out to be a really simple repair, just dry joints. Once wetted the set came to life.
The 2084 was a plastic cabinet printed wood grain effect that used to rub off with very little effort
I’ve seen the time when we had to remove all the wood grain print and send them out as an all black set .
The Sobell 1101 (20 inch ) & the 1102 (24 inch ) set both had blue plastic fronts not really noticeable in the photo , all 3 sets used the series 2 chassis nice sets quite reliable .

We had a Junior Fineline on loan from our Aunty Liz for a couple of weeks during some very regular power cuts. Dad rigged up a car battery to power it.
As for the Sobell 1101, I had one in my bedroom for a while and even fitted an audio isolating transformer to provide an audio output to record TV sound via a 3.5 mm jack socket mounted neatly on the side of the cabinet. Again, another set that eventually got dumped through no fault of its own! I agree with Chris, very nice picture and reliable too.
Me and my mate Andy Moreton, got hold of a few GEC series 1 sets too – I forget where from and repaired them and flogged them at £20 a piece (I think!) in the Barry Gem free newspaper. This must have been about 1981 I guess.
