Hi.
Just a question about Ferguson 382U & 384U valve radios that employ permeability tuning for f.m. What was the actual length of tuning cord that was incorporated in the module (not mentioned in the service data). In order to do repairs on these radios it would be great to find extra information. Can you help, please?
Many thanks
Mike
Hi Mike,
I’ve checked my service data, Trader, ERT and R&TS they only mention the length of the AM cord. I also checked and sadly I do not have manufacturers data for that set, however.
You can obtain the manufacturers manual for £1.99 for the 382U “Fire Fly” from here
https://www.service-data.com/section.php/2516/1/382u-firefly
Or the Manufacturers manual for the 384U “Finesse” for the same price of £1.99 here
https://www.service-data.com/section.php/2518/1/384u-finesse
I would imagine the manufacturers service information should contain the info you’re after but its not guaranteed.
I’ve raised a topic on our forum, you never know some of the guys might have the answer and will either respond here or there.

From the makers manuals.
Ferguson 384U, Schedule A and B. AM cord 4ft 3 inches, FM 4ft 3 inches.
Ferguson 382U, schedule A and B. The manual does not give a length, it instead states that:-
Quote” Due to the need for accuracy in fitting the two tuning slugs to the length of the cord, replacement of the cord alone should not be attempted. The complete cord assembly with the slugs already fitted can be ordered from the Service Department under the part number Z17223” end quote which is absolutely useless to you.
If you are to perform repairs on these radios I definitely advise you get the manuals for what they cost.
