About Me

As a young boy I developed an interest in Radio and TV. I constructed radios and ended up repairing all manner of radios, TVs Tape recorders, record players and car radios. When I left shool I attended a full time City and Guilds 48 course which led to the acquisition of the intermediate certificate. It also paved the way for my first job at Visionhire. I carried on with college on a part time basis and two years later, I acquired the City and Guilds Final and one year later the Colour TV endorsement which was basically and addition to the Final certificate. I joined Radio Rentals and here I enjoyed and eleven year stint with a great company as a TV engineer.
In 1982 I joined BT in their electronic repair department, my TV experience caught up with me because they had me repairing TV and audio distribution equipment. During my ten years with BT I acquired a BTEC ONC/HNC in telecoms engineering. Wonderful working conditions over a five day week with no Saturdays! I went on to Work for the Home Office Department Of Telecommunications repairing radio equipment used by the police and fire brigade.
In the early 90s I worked for Eddystone Radio, here I tested and commissioned FM radio broadcast transmitters used for the Independent local radio network. In early 1999 I joined ntl/arqiva a derivative of the Independent Broadcasting Authority.
Here I helped to maintain the broadcasting infrastructure of the UK. I worked as an engineer on low power TV transposers used in TV relay stations. High power TV transmitters and all their ancillary equipment. FM local and National FM radio transmitters, Freeview digital TV transmitters DAB digital radio. In 2012 the analogue TV system was switched off and I retired after forty three years.
