Another subject I have a close relationship with.as I worked for British Satalite Broadcasting. The Station build was unique as it was component throughout. Y, B-Y and R-Y no PAL involved. The pictures were excellent. Luminance 5.5Mhz or 7.3Mhz and the colour difference signals 2.75Mhz in Bandwidth. so D2-MAC was the component transmission method but in BSB’s case it was D-MAC which had higher bandwidth which required D-MAC chip development by the companey but duly done. The artical explains this component transmission method. We were also doing wider bandwith Video to allow for 16 X 9 pictures. Special extended bandwidth video recorders were produced by Sony for us WBR-700s. The transmission sound was a digital. My involvement was all the station equipment but I did go out with the D-MAC encoding equipment and set up for remote sources. This was 35 years ago, in 1989.
