FINLUX PEACOCK

< Back

The problem with this set is no raster – just three distorted
coloured loops about mid -screen. The only clue I have is
that 8401 and R402 are burning.
The two resistors you mention are in parallel with the
field scan coil circuit, so it would seem that this is not intact.
The coils are connected in series with L507 and the north –
south pincushion distortion correction transductor
TRD502, so there are several things to check for being
open -circuit.

I worked on a fair number of these sets from new back in the day, with care and effort they could be made to produce fantastic performance but they could be a challenge! The plug in sub-boards can be re-sited on the opposite side of their mother board for access whilst working. A warning – the regulated power supply daughter board and field timebase board utilise the same socket sizes. It’s fairly easy to lose your bearings when swapping a board from one side to the other, especially if you’re momentarily distracted at the wrong moment. I managed to remove the field timebase board on one occasion and then insert it into the same socket as the regulated power supply board on the other side once. It only takes making this serious mistake once never to forget this experience!
The regulated power supply stage employs a thyristor based design but produces an unusually high 240V regulated output. To achieve this the ac input supplying the thyristor anode is firstly voltage doubled, producing up to 680V peak!
