This series of chassis used a “High level “ contrast control R32, i.e. it was in the feed to the cathode of the CRT with high signal voltages.
This was a common fault with the control only working at one end, note it has a tap on the carbon track for frequency compensation, C36 providing this function. Component ID’s from R&TV Servicing book.
