PYE 17 Series: No Picture – Weak Sound

When this set was switched on, the sound came up as usual, but as the line output stage warmed up the sound weakened and the boost rectifier began to glow red. Tests with a meter on ohms revealed a resistance of 100Ω between the transformer winding and teh chassis, and it remained the same when the scan coil connecting plug was removed. We were about to try a replacement transformer when it was observed that the coils were connected by means ov a coaxial cable, and a test soon showed that a short-circuit had developed in the lead. Possibly as a result of overheating. A new lead cured the fault.
