Website and Forum Get A Makeover

The web site has recently undergone a complete style makeover, I’ve also designed a new website banner, all this to reflect the enhanced site content coverage, that being all vintage home entertainment equipment.

The menu system has equally undergone a refresh & reorganisation with fresh content added. You’ll notice a new sub main menu under the primary menu, this has quick links to the forum, contact, guest-book and news. Things should be a lot easier to find now, I personally feel the new look is an improvement over the old.

I have also migrated the forum to a new software application. The addition of the new data library software went well, gradually more and more data is being added as and when time permits. I hope you agree that the single, centralised data library access point is a lot more helpful especially the search new facility.

That’s it for now, more updates to follow.

  1. Freshly minted forum!

Quite tasty I reckon, but I can’t find the smileys. Have we lost them? Likewise, I’m not seeing the user stats at the foot of the page, unless of course they’re not there anymore? Which is a pity.

Anyway, it reminds me, my sat-nav needs updating!…. {;¬)

  2. Of course there are always negatives to a major migration. Thankfully smilies & extended stats are very  minor in the grand scheme of things and the least of my concerns, considering what could have gone wrong and that I was facing running a uncertain future forum package.

In time smilies & stats may be addressed. For now I’m happy we have a working forum and whats more all the posts came over with their attachments intact. I remember migrating years ago and no attachments came over which was a nightmare.

Even me, a computer ignoramus at the best of times, seems to quite successfully navigate the new style.

Do still like the serene green, very easy on the mince pies  🙂

  4. I’m also glad the blog linking is working, all these posts in this section as configured,  are appearing as comments on the main sites associated article. In fact its better than the old forums as its creates the bi-directional links at both ends for people to click and follow, the other only did one link. Also the comment button appears in the forum section too as well as the standard forum “add reply”. Comments get queued for approval but not sure about std add reply.

You’ll be pleased to now see after a few days of getting my head around the new software, I have enhanced things operationally and visually. Now to the right the forum has its own specific side-bar. This currently shows the most recent forums posts and below that, the most recent topics, both showing the members avatar.

Also you will note the who’s online is back but now on the side-bar. It shows the online members avatar which is also click-able to view their profile.

You will also note for those members who like to see their stats, they have now made a reappearance on the left of every post you make. They show the following :-

    • Light bulb to indicate if member is online or offline and forum name
    • Rank group
    • User group
    • Rank Badge
    • Number of posts
    • little arrow, click on this to reveal access to profile,pm, etc
